🍛 Bowl full of vegan Filipino flavor

Hey Reader,

Filipino food is the absolute crossroads of so many flavors mashing up in Southeast Asian paradise. I really knew nothing about the cuisine of the Philippines until I cooked there as a representative of the USA at the World Street Food Congress in Manila. Ever since then, I have been obsessed with sharing the rare naturally vegan dishes, and veganizing the all of the non-veg classics.

Of course, the food of the Philippines is know for a TON of pork... but we are about to change that. ...or at least make it so us vegan folks can eat a ton of sisig and baboy without any piggies being harmed, right?

Let's cook up some absurdly tasty Filipino bangers, Reader!

Ensaladang Pipino

This loudmouth of a cucumber salad shows up with snap, tang, and a citrusy right hook that wakes up anything on the plate. It’s what your BBQ tofu fantasizes about when it’s stuck next to plain rice—sharp, unapologetically yummy, and dripping in calamansi goodness.

Vegetable Okoy

Cripsy, golden vegetable okoy loaded with shredded kabocha squash, carrots, and spinach, this bad boy fries up in one pan with zero stress and maximum crunch. Dunk it in that pink chili vinegar and you’re on snack cloud 9, my dear mommy.

Sinangag

This classic Filipino garlic fried rice, or sinangag, is crispy, garlicky, and here to give last night’s rice its redemption arc. It’s a skillet-happy, no-frills kind of magic that takes humble leftovers and turns them into gold. Quick to make, easy to riff on, and packed with attitude.

Tokwa't Baboy

This crispy, tangy tokwa't baboy slaps in every direction—golden tofu, juicy soy curls, and a garlicky vinegar glaze that grabs you by the collar (in a good way). Just one bite and you’ll already be requesting seconds.

Ginataang Gulay

This ginataang gulay is the kind of deeply satisfying, coconut-laced Filipino stew, packed with golden tofu, tender jackfruit, and kabocha that your heart has been yearning for.
